Corgi Racing Rules

  • 1. Here in the Omaha Corgi Crew (OCC) we love all dogs, large and small. However, only corgis and corgi-mixes* will be permitted to race, and ONLY racing dogs are allowed to attend this event. Please do not bring a dog to watch the races. We reserve the right to determine which dogs can and cannot race. *If you're not sure if your corgi-mix qualifies, email us and we'll evaluate on a case by case basis.

    2. All corgi owners must complete the registration form linked below on the Omaha Sports Commission (OSC) website. They must also complete the waiver, and upload their dog(s) shot records (Rabies, DHHP, and Bordetella) at the time of registration. Once shot records, registration, and $15 entry fee have been received, your dog(s) will be entered into the races.

    3. There will be a minimum of five heats and a maximum of 10 (excluding senior corgis and large corgi-mixes). Racers will be selected first come, first serve and registration will close when all 100 spots have been filled. You will be contacted by email with your dog’s heat number and racing color after registration closes. First place from each heat (except the senior and corgi-mixes heats) will move on to the Grand Championship heat. Please watch our social media for updates on when registration closes.

    4. All dogs must arrive and be checked in 30 minutes before they’re scheduled to race. If you arrive late, you forfeit your entry to race.

    5. All decisions regarding the call and placement/advancement of racers made by OCC’s board/race staff are final and not subject to review by Owners.

    6. All dogs must have two people to race - one at the starting line and one at the finish line. Racing tip: Whoever retrieves the dog at the finish line should stand back 5-6 feet to allow your dog to cross. If you’re too close to the finish line, your dog will slow down and may not cross the finish line.

    7. You may bring your dog’s favorite toy to encourage them to run for the finish line. Toys are NOT to be played with in the staging area - only used at the finish line. ABSOLUTELY NO food, treats, lights, laser pointers, or throwing items down the track will be allowed. Please note: If your dog bites another dog or human, you will be disqualified and asked to leave immediately.

    8. All dogs must be on a leash at all times while not on the race track. Once finished racing, they must be back on their leashes.

    9. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dog(s). We recommend bringing portable water for your dog, as there will be limited communal water at the races.

    10. Remember this is for FUN! Unsportsmanlike conduct of any kind will not be tolerated.

FAQS

  • This event will go on rain or shine.

  • We ask that all doggos be at least 6 months old in order to help protect their growing bones.

  • We ask that all race participants be up-to-date on their Rabies, DHHP, and Bordetella vaccines, since there will be so many dogs in close proximity together. We would feel absolutely terrible if one of the racers got sick!

  • Yes, we ask all racing doggos to be spayed or neutered so we can avoid any accidental tomfoolery on the race track.

  • We take both the doggo’s age and weight into account when placing them in each heat. There will be a Senior heat and corgi-mix heat too (exempt from the Grand Championship).

  • Yes, we will provide race numbers/colors for each doggo.

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each heat will receive a ribbon. The Grand Champion will receive an award as well.

  • No, only racing dogs are allowed at this event.

  • We do not have an automated system, so emails containing the waivers and entry fee invoices will begin entering inboxes as soon as possible after registration closes.

  • As all entry fees go into donations for local rescues, there will not be any refunds. Vendor fees are also not refundable.

  • We ask all attendees to follow current CDC guidelines and any mandates in place by the City of Council Bluffs. Dogs don't know how to social distance, but as humans, we can attempt to make our fellow human beings feel safe and comfortable by offering space.
